Masoor Dal Tomato Soup

Ingredients

Red lentils (masoor)1/2 cup
Water cups
Tomato puree1/2 cup (or 1 small tomato)
Ginger-garlic paste1 tsp
Cumin powder1/2 tsp
Coriander powder1/2 tsp
Red chili powder1/4 tsp
Turmeric1/4 tsp
Salt1/2 tsp
Lemon juice1 tsp
Butter/ghee (optional)1 tsp

Instructions

  1. 1Boil/pressure cook masoor with water + turmeric + salt
  2. 2Add tomato puree + spices, simmer 5 min
  3. 3Finish with lemon
  4. 4Optional: Add butter/ghee for richness

Moong Dal Soup Bowl

Ingredients

Moong dal (yellow)1/2 cup
Water2½–3 cups (soup consistency)
Ginger-garlic paste1 tsp
Turmeric1/4 tsp
Salt1/2 tsp
Black pepper1/4 tsp
Lemon juice1 tsp
Oil/ghee (for tadka)1 tsp
Cumin seeds (for tadka)1/2 tsp
Hing (for tadka)a pinch
Chili flakes/green chili pastea little

Instructions

  1. 1Rinse dal → pressure cook 2 whistles (or boil 15–18 min)
  2. 2Mash slightly + add water to make it soupy
  3. 3Tadka: Heat oil/ghee → add cumin seeds → hing → chili flakes
  4. 4Pour tadka on top of dal
  5. 5Finish with lemon + pepper
